Week 10 of the 2019-2020 Season

SIS makes it the the Section 4AAA Semi-Finals

Friday (2/14): SIS Wrestling went over to Mounds View for the Section 4AAA Team Tournament. In the first round they dualed against Tartan (#4 seed), an opponent that they lost to on January 31st, 21-49.

The team lost at the first three weights before Michael Rassmussen (126) went out and got the first points on the board. Romer Pugh (138) was the next one to go out and get a win for the team and received a medical forfeit after leading 10-6 going into the third period.

Chris Zuniga (152) bumped up a couple weight classes and got a pin for the team at 152 and closing the dual score gap to 16-25.

Chris Curtis (170) received a forfeit and then Aaron Chanthanavong (182) went out and got his first varsity win and did so by pin!

David (Senowa) Baek (195) also received a forfeit and giving SIS the first lead of the dual, 34-29. At 220, Tartan was able to get a pin and brought the dual score to 34-35 headed into the last match.

Marvin Lamin (HWT) wrestled an entire 6:55 before getting the final takedown in overtime to win 6-4 and secure the team win, 37-35. 

 

SIS then dualed Stillwater (#1 seed and ranked #3 in the state) and lost by a final score of 6-73.

 

Outlook:  SIS will be back in action for the Individual Section 4AAA Tournament on Saturday (2/22) at Stillwater Area High School where wrestling will begin at 10am. Each team can send only one wrestler per weight class and wrestlers that finish in the top 2 of the tournament will qualify for the Minnesota High School State Tournament next weekend.
